‘If you love me, you will keep^* my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.

‘I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.’

Dear Lord, in whom we live and move and have our being, we offer you our prayers in the promise that you will hear us.

Help us to listen and understand your response.

We bring before you our thanksgivings for the abundance of your creation. Guide us towards better stewardship of your many gifts.

We ask your blessings on those called to ministry. In silence let us offer our individual prayers for the leaders and pastoral team of St Peter’s.

We offer you our thanks for your Holy Spirit; may we become joyful dwelling places for this wondrous gift.

Lord in your mercy: Hear our prayer

We bring before you our prayers for the health of our neighbours, families and friends. We give you thanks for those who offer their gifts in service to healing the sick, feeding the poor and advocating for the neglected and abused in our midst. Help us all to pray with true love and hope.

We pray for those who face death without the familiar touch and comforting voices of those they know and love. We pray as well for those who keep watch over them in their hearts.

We offer our prayers in silence for the souls of the departed.

Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord,

And may light perpetual shine upon them.

We come before you as your children and ask your patience and guidance as we learn to shine as a light in the world and walk humbly with you, our God.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Psalm 107.1-9

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

for his steadfast love endures for ever.
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
those he redeemed from trouble
and gathered in from the lands,

from the north and from the south.
Some wandered in desert wastes,
finding no way to an inhabited town;
hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress;
he led them by a straight way,
until they reached an inhabited town.
Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wonderful works to humankind.
For he satisfies the thirsty,
and the hungry he fills with good things.
