HRH The Duke of Edinburgh

It is with great sadness that St Peter’s joins with the United Kingdom in mourning the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip. The Church of England provides an online Book of Condolences.

We pray for the Queen and the Royal Family, and for others known to us who have recently been bereaved.

Gospel

Luke 24.36-48

Bible

While the eleven and their companions were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’ They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, ‘Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.’ And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence.

Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.’

Victorious Lord

We pray for your Church and especially the head of our church the Queen at this time of her  bereavement. We walk together and stand next to each other with Faith in Jesus’ name.

We pray for churches around Lambeth where Fraser Dyer, one of our past curates is priest. St Annes church Vauxhall only reopened to in person worship last week and yet the area is facing a surge of Corona virus locally. Keep them safe O Lord Protector.

We thank God that we can be open and for our increasing congregation. May our clergy, Irena and Andy speak God’s words to us. We pray that God equips Sarah in preaching and our pastoral team Vivette, Amanda and Boachie  as they connect with those who cannot be with us in person. We pray for wisdom and health for Margaret as she edits the Parish Profile.

Lord in the silence hear our prayer.

Lord of reconciliation

We lift before you the state of our troubled world thinking especially of Myanmar, Northern Island and in America. May we be your healing especially where young people are being manipulated by and drawn into dangerous and destructive forces.

Lord in the silence hear our prayer

Lord who transforms shame into praise,

We pray for any who feel weak, who are ill in body, mind or spirit and pray that you restore them.

Lord in the silence hear our prayer

Resurrection Lord,

We lift those who have recently died especially remembering the Duke of Edinburgh. May they rest in peace. We thank you for the contribution all these people have made with in their families and communities. May you comfort the bereaved families.

Lord, accept these prayers for the sake of your Lord Jesus Christ.
