St Peters Lockdown 2020

Dear Friends,

As we enter the season of Passiontide this Sunday, most of us are more deeply aware of the sufferings of this world than at any time in living memory. Families and friends are isolated from each other or cramped together. People are dying alone. The vulnerable are living in great fear. Many are risking their lives working on the frontline or out of economic necessity.

This week all churches have joined the national effort to halt the spread of coronavirus by shutting down not only public worship but also private prayer and community activities. St Peter’s will maintain a praying presence for our community, from our hearts and from our homes.

It has been heartening to receive so many warm wishes for St Peter’s from friends near and far. Please keep the inspirational thoughts and suggestions coming to encourage and entertain us in the time ahead.

A new Pastoral Network is now in place to help us stay connected. Check who lives nearest to you – and if you would like them to stay in touch, let them have your contact details. Or you can use them to pass messages on to others. No contact details of church members will be passed on without permission.

It has been very painful this week to see the crypt closed down, as well as the church. Please keep in your prayers all the vulnerable people who find solace and support here, especially those who have no home to stay. Watch out for more information about how to help the most needy amongst us.

As we now journey towards Holy Week and Easter, let us each find a small, still place in our hearts to hold a flame alight for all those who have no home to stay and those whose home is not safe.

You will find this Sunday’s readings, hymns and prayers here.

Huge thanks to everyone who is working hard to keep St Peter’s going.

With love and prayers

Julia
