Intercessions
From Peter Day
Let us join together in prayer.
As we follow the unfolding of Christ’s life on earth in our weekly readings, let us pray that our eyes may be opened to those many things in the Bible (and in our daily experience) that are hidden in plain sight from which we can learn. Let us pray that in this Candlemas season, we too may be illuminated with greater understanding of what we believe, and that our examples may illuminate others.
O Lord, enlighten our darkness,
and in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We pray for those who are ill, and those who are fearful of illness. We pray for those caught up in natural and unnatural disasters: in war, in hunger, in fleeing from oppressive regimes.
O Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We pray for the anxious, and we ask for God’s help for those who are have no work, for those for whom the future is uncertain, and those who have too much work to do.
O Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We give thanks for all those who love their neighbours: in particular for those who care for the sick, and the many who continue to provide the services our society relies upon.
O Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We pray for those who are deeply worried about people they love.
O Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
At a time of great international tension, we pray for peace in the world. We pray that our leaders at home and abroad may be guided to make urgent wise decisions for the wellbeing of our future world.
O Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We pray for those who have recently died, in particular for Liz Kohler, and for her family. And also for those whose anniversaries we remember.
Rest eternal grant unto them O Lord,
and may thy light perpetual shin upon them.
We give thanks for St Peter’s. We pray for God’s blessing on Simon, on Sarah and their families. And on all who participate in the worship here, and make St Peters possible.
O Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Oh Lord, we know that every day in this parish, hundreds of prayers are offered to you by many people inside and outside this Church, like arrows shot to heaven. They echo our thoughts and fears, our joys and our sorrows. They continue our formal worship into our everyday lives. Oh Lord in your mercy hear our prayers now, and listen for those we will utter up in the coming weeks and years.
Merciful God, accept these prayers for the sake of your son our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen
