Sermon September 26

Intercessions

From Liz Kohler

Let us pray for the church and for the world and let us thank God for his goodness.  We pray for our Church of St Peter de Beauvoir.  We give thanks for the people and groups that have worked so hard to keep us a praying community during the interregnum.  And we pray for Fr Simon as he prepares to be our vicar.

Lord, in the silence, hear our prayer

Lord, look in your mercy upon the world you loved so much that you sent your Son to suffer and to die.  We pray for the places in the world where there is conflict and hold in our hearts especially the people of Afghanistan and Yemen.  We pray for refugees, those who have fled in desperation and for people who work towards reconciliation between those who are bitterly opposed.  We pray that relentless war may be replaced by relentless diplomacy.

Lord, in the silence, hear our prayer

Lord, we thank you for the beauty of the world we live in, the sunrise and sunset seen through the trees beginning to take on their autumn hues, the glint of sunshine on water and the freshening breeze.  We are thankful for those who are working to preserve this beauty, this planet, with energy and enthusiasm as we approach the COP26 conference in November.

Lord, in the silence, hear our prayer

We pray for the sick and especially for those who suffer because their trust has been abused by people they love and upon whom they believed they could rely.  We pray for those who are worried about the sickness of people that they love.

Lord, in the silence, hear our prayer.

And for those who have died or the anniversaries of whose deaths fall at this time, especially for Jean Harrison, Marie Sears, Joy Turner and Richard Schilling

Rest eternal grant unto them O Lord and may Thy light perpetual shine upon them.

Oh Lord, help us to remember that we are part of a praying community, that even when our prayer life seems difficult or challenging, you are there welcoming our attempts to talk to and to listen to you.  Oh Lord, in your mercy hear our prayers now and listen for those we will utter up in the coming weeks and years.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

AMEN
